From Mego Workshop to Mego Studio: My 10-Year Journey

Hi, I’m Kimi.
As 2025 comes to a close, I wanted to take a moment to reach out and say: You’ve done an amazing job this year. In the rush of the holiday season, please don’t forget to celebrate how far you’ve come.
This time of year always brings reflection for me, and today I want to share a story about where I’ve been and the exciting transition I’m making with my creative work.
“Mego” is a nickname given to me by my grandma. Some of my fondest childhood memories are of playing with the mud at her place in Taiwan. Back then, it was just simple play, but looking back, those moments were the seeds of everything I create today.
When I moved to Australia, I found myself returning to that same source of comfort—using my hands to touch the soil to find a sense of peace and groundedness in this new land.
The story of Mego Workshop began in a small craft corner back in 2016. I have long been fascinated by traditional daily crafts—from plant dyeing and weaving to punch needle and knitting. Through Mego Workshop, I’ve had the joy of hosting sessions for the Taiwanese Women’s Association of WA and my annual Christmas wreath workshops, which continue to this day. Sharing the creative process and connecting with people through craft has always been my greatest passion.
In 2023, my journey took a transformative turn toward ceramics. After my first lessons at Sandra Karen Albin Pottery, I knew I had found my calling. I further refined my skills under the mentorship of Greg Crowe at the Midland Junction Arts Centre and explored the chemistry of glazes with Andrea Vinkovic at ClayMake. These experiences built the foundation that allows me to create and experiment freely in my own studio today.
This year, I began sharing my pottery at local markets. I love talking to people about my work and hearing how these pieces will become part of your daily lives. Making ceramics is a slow, intentional process—a quiet reflection on my journey here.
Looking back on this decade, I am deeply grateful to the beautiful people who have supported my small business. As I move forward, I want to focus on creating functional ware for everyday use. To mark this new chapter, I am transitioning from Mego Workshop to Mego Studio.
Wishing you a restful end to the year and a wonderful New Year ahead. May 2026 be filled with creativity, peace, and many beautiful moments.
With gratitude,
Kimi :)

Stay in touch. With every collection, I share stories of my creative process, the earth, and the quiet beauty of everyday life. My emails are infrequent and intentional, sent only when I have something meaningful to share.
